ESSENTIAL INFORMATION FOR A PERFECT SKYE PROPOSAL
The one you love stands atop a windswept cliff. They sense something special is about to happen, but they can't be completely sure what - until you begin to kneel down and slowly open the box you've been hiding in your pocket until this perfect time.
They see a sparkle as the light hits the ring - and their breath catches in their throat...
Their eyes meet yours and you see surprise, delight and euphoria.
It's a magical moment in everyone's life and marks a special place in your journey together.
As photographers, photographing proposals is one of our favourite assignments. There's nothing like capturing the rapture of this joyous day! With two of us at work, we get to catch every beautiful expression.
On this page, we've put together some information we hope will be helpful, as well as a list of Skye's iconic proposal locations and some quieter ones, if you're looking for somewhere more secluded.
Norma & Sean
THE QUIRAING: located in the north of Skye, surrounded by breath-taking scenery is the Quiraing. It is atmospheric with a remote feeling (though easily accessible) and is the perfect spot for a proposal in Scotland
EILEAN DONAN CASTLE - a fairytale location, which embodies Scotland, and is located around 10 miles south of the Isle of Skye. This romantic castle juts into the sea at the meeting point of three sea lochs. With views across to the mountain ranges of Skye, you have a choice of stunning backdrops for your proposal. Timing and payment for being photographed within the castle grounds or car park must be arranged beforehand with the castle staff. (Photography from an alternative car park will not incur a charge.)
NEIST POINT - the Lighthouse can be found near Glendale. If you park in the car park and take a short walk to the left, along the coastline, with the Lighthouse as a backdrop, you have sensational views of both the lighthouse and the stretch of Atlantic sea to the Outer Hebrides.
DUNSCAITH CASTLE - perched on a rocky cliff, this ruined castle can be found in the south of Skye, around 17 miles from Broadford. From a small carpark is a gentle walk, along a track, to the castle, cliffs with absolutely spectacular views.
FAIRY GLEN - as romantic as it sounds, the Fairy Glen in the north-west of the Isle of Skye has an irregular and haunting landscape, sculpted by wind and weather, with still, reflective pools. It has the most varied backdrops within the smallest area and all within a short walking distance.
BROTHERS' POINT - a dramatic peninsula jutting into into the swirling sea. To reach the actual point is a fairly long walk (from a half-hour upwards) but well worth taking the path here because the views are fantastic.
SLIGACHAN - nestled closely to the surrounding Cuillin mountains is Sligachan with its famous, ancient, arched bridge, rushing river and tranquil pools. In the centre of Skye, between Broadford and Portree, it is reached by simply crossing the road from the carpark.
"SECRET" SKYE LOCATIONS - we cannot guarantee there will be absolutely no one around, but the following are a selection of quieter locations, which allow for a more intimate proposal.
Please contact us to brainstorm ideas for your romantic Isle of Skye proposal. We simply can't wait to hear from you!

Here are some helpful tips for planning your Scottish wedding proposal:
1. Communicate with your photographers! Let us know ahead of time where you'd like to go so that we can plan how best to work around the light. During this moment, there will be absolutely no direction or interference from us - so we want to discuss with you, ahead of time, where to position yourselves and share our secret 3-point strategy for an absolutely epic proposal.
2. Pick your time of day carefully. Not only will that ensure the best possible light, it will also ensure the areas are as quiet as possible. Skye is fortunate to be adored by tourists - but when you're trying to have an intimate, private and romantic moment, you don't necessarily want too many people around. Planning your time carefully can make all the difference.
Jason opted to propose to his girlfriend, Sophie, at around six in the morning - to avoid the many visitors who go to Eilean Donan Castle (see left image at page top and first images for Eilean Donan in the Locations section.)
3. Relax and enjoy it. While you are proposing, we will be posing as tourists with good cameras, casually taking photographs of the landscape. We've perfected our act over the years (especially after one girl asked her boyfriend if we were stalking them!)
It is definitely worth sending your chosen photographers a photography of you both beforehand - just on the off chance there happens to be two couples proposing to each other on the same day!
But, after all the planning is done, relax and sink into the spontaneity of the moment. Trust your photographers and focus only on the person you love most.

ROMANTIC SCOTTISH CASTLE PROPOSAL
Marc and Robyn came all the way to Scotland, from South Africa, in order for Marc to propose in a wonderful castle-location, with some close friends and family as witnesses. A member of the family had seen our wedding work & recommended us. So, we were invited off the island for our very first proposal shoot!
Marc coaxed Robyn into wearing a gorgeous gown while they went to the castle and then, suddenly, to her absolute delight, he entirely surprised Robyn. This was a truly moving and beautiful proposal.
SPECTACULAR ISLE OF SKYE ENGAGEMENT AT ELGOL BEACH
Sharon and Navin wanted some spectacular shots of their engagement and travelled from England for the magic of Skye as their backdrop.
They chose formal dress, which worked so well with the awesome mountains and a dramatic style of photography. It was a fun shoot for all!
DRAMATIC SKYE ENGAGEMENT AT ARMADALE CASTLE
The gothic-style of the semi-ruined Armadale Castle was the perfect location for Derek & Alisa's dream-shoot. The style of Alisa''s dress plus the stone columns and arches lent themselves to a high-key, dramatic style of photography - a style Euphoria revels in.
A proposal and engagement is a once-in-a-lifetime event - an occasion for unforgettable photography too. Derek & Elisa simply shone!
IDYLLIC SURPRISE PROPOSAL IN A SECRET, SKYE LOCATION
Matt had a huge secret and a huge ring with which to surprise Minjel, his lovely girlfriend.
We arrived as photographers engaged for an unexpected photoshoot - but, of course, the real surprise was the magical moment when Matt got down on one knee and told Minjel the beautiful words that he wanted to spend forever with her.
BREATHTAKING ENGAGEMENT AT NEIST POINT
John and Brittany had come to visit Skye from the U.S.A. They would be staying in Glendale on the west coast of the island.
There was plan B was in place, but plan A went ahead perfectly - with intimate shots together in an isolated spot and then, at Neist Point, where the billowing breeze enhanced the dramatic imagery.
FABULOUS QUIRAING ENGAGEMENT
Imagine travelling all the way from America, with a precious, little box kept hidden until the entirely perfect moment.
Jordan wanted the Isle of Skye, with its rugged landscape at the Quiraing, for his engagement. Although the weather was overcast on the day, the couple absolutely radiated happiness and joy!
