We have prepared the answers to some frequently asked questions and hope these will be helpful for anyone considering elopement photography or a proposal shoot on the Isle of Skye.
Once all the collation of images, editing, ordering and numbering is completed plus our final checks carried out, you will receive your high-resolution images (usually) digitally. None of the final images you receive will ever be watermarked and you are free to print and utilise the images for personal use, and to share copies with friends and family for their personal enjoyment. (Euphoria retains the copyrights for all images as well as any commercial usage rights.)
While we tailor our photographic style to each individual couple, we understand that our vision may not suit every client and, since we accept only a limited number of shoots, we want to ensure that we are the best fit for one other. This proves to be in the best interests of both clients and photographers.
As a result, after we receive an inquiry, we really like to get to know our clients, learn their particular story and understand their concepts.
Once clients are happy and we are all on the same page, we will then prepare a contract (together with terms and conditions,) which we ask clients to check through, sign and return to us. A signed, returned contract together with the booking deposit secures us for your date. Simply discussing your elopement or proposal does not imply you have booked Euphoria's services. We receive so many enquiries for so many dates. Therefore, only when you have read through, signed and returned your contract, together with your booking deposit, are you now booked with Euphoria. We can't wait to hear from you!
A clear advantage in determining the amount of photography you require is having two photographers, each catching different angles and framing, resulting in more and varied images in less time. However, the amount of photography you choose will really depend upon your event. If you are having an all-day wedding with a number of features included or are travelling to various locations for photographs, you will definitely want a longer time.
Euphoria works on an hourly basis, so you are able to select exactly the amount of photography-time you need. Generally, for proposals in a single location, we recommend around an hour's photographing. For a simple elopement in one area, two hours are usually sufficient. If you are at all uncertain, we are here to help!
The island has so many amazing and varied backdrops for stunning photography. You may even prefer to have several locations for your elopement or proposal photographs.
Here are some questions to ask: Do we love the serene beauty of a shimmering Skye beach? Do our hearts soar with the awesome mountain ranges towering into the misty sky? Would we revel in a romantic fairy-tale backdrop at one of Skye's historic castles? Are exhilarating, towering cliffs and crashing waves the perfect location to declare our love? Would we prefer the thrilling power of a gushing waterfall as our setting? Or would we enjoy still reflective pools and lochs for our photography? Would we want something more unusual - to have our elopement on board a boat? The answers to these will depend upon your own individual personalities and preferences and, hopefully, this may help you narrow down your ultimate choice(s.) For examples of the above kinds of locations, please check the "Outdoor Locations" sections on our Let's Elope! and Marry Me! pages. We are here to help in any way we can too!
It is tempting to say, "Just wear whatever you're comfortable in." Obviously, you want to feel natural and, as far as possible, at ease. A surprising number of our proposal and engagement clients do dress up (yet still maintain the surprise-element.)
This can be done, for example, by arranging a visit to one of Skye's famous restaurants or hotels, (such as The Three Chimneys or Kinloch Lodge Hotel) but making a stop beforehand at the chosen proposal location. A FAQ below considers some easily reached spots and the Outdoor Locations section on our Marry Me! page is also useful for selecting a practical backdrop for a more formally dressed proposal. On that page are highlights from proposals which will give you some inspiration too.
Whatever you decide to wear, we want you to have gorgeous imagery to share and treasure as you begin the next stage of your life!
You've scheduled your elopement or proposal photography and the forecast is not looking good, what can be done?
If it is at all possible, we will try to reschedule to a better time, either on the same day or an alternative day for outdoor shoots. Sometimes, the weather changes unexpectedly or it is impossible for the couple to rearrange the time as happened for our lovely couple in the accompanying images. In this case, we worked outside for as long as we were all able and then went to a beautiful hotel nearby. We warmed up with hot drinks and, with the kind permission of the hotel staff, we continued the creative photography indoors. The couple loved what we achieved and left a glowing review.
If you would prefer to have a Plan B in place beforehand, we can discuss this in advance.

Let's make it an epic start! If this sounds right for you, please reach out to us to brainstorm your shoot!
The simple answer is that photographs were meant to be printed and viewed not stored away uncertainly. Recently we were contacted by a client. Her proposal was on the Isle of Skye. She had married in the U.S. However, she had lost her digital engagement photographs. Did we still have them? (We were so glad that we did and could help!)
Having a gorgeous photo book is a treasure. Images in print have vibrance, life and emotional impact which somehow seems diminished on a screen. This is what one bride said after receiving her album - "We have just received our photobook. I have just stopped crying - I can't believe how fantastic it is... - every page turn is just lovely and we both can't wait to show it off. The memories come flooding back with every page turn." This is the effect beautiful imagery in print will have! Women, being tactile creatures, especially appreciate an attractively designed album.
Here are a few easily reached outdoor locations. From the top and then left to right are: The Quirang, Fairy Glen, Sligachan, Elgol, the Old Man of Storr from Storr Lochs, Staffin Bay, Eilean Donan Castle, Dunvegan Castle and Armadale Castle. For more locations, please check out our Outdoor Locations sections on our Let's Elope! and Marry Me! pages.
Let's just reverse that question a little. What if you opt for a really cheap photographer? They take photographs and forward them on to you. Do you really think that they will spend much time carefully collating and editing the images to be certain that the final images are just beautiful? Will they actually ensure you receive the high-resolution images? What if they feel unwell on the day, will they show up at all, or shoot with all their heart even feeling poorly? And finally, what if you look at the images and you don't actually like any of them? Was cheap really worth it?
Professional photographers have already invested heavily before they even step out their doors. They have expensive, extensive gear and back-up, insurance, training and expertise. They will work their socks off to ensure that you will have sensational imagery to treasure and share for future generations so that your beautiful photographs become, in time, beyond priceless. Are professional photographers worth it? Anyone who had "a friend with a good camera" photograph their wedding will urge you to only have the best photographer possible!
Wedding ceremonies can be customised to your wishes, including readings and music, but to add some truly Scottish elements, you might want to include some or all of these:
HANDFASTING - an ancient Celtic rite and likely the origin of the expression "tying the knot," which literally happens when the couples wrists are fastened together. As they pull their wrists apart, the cord tightens and a knot is formed. The binding can be kept as a forever-reminder.
THE QUAICH RITUAL - originally a symbol of welcoming, the drinking from a carved metal or wooden vessel (the Quaich) has come to embody trust and is a beautiful way to seal your commitment.
SCOTTISH PIPING - the Piper will pipe you to your ceremony location and play at the end of the ceremony to your specifications. This is a gloriously Scottish procedure, marking a significant life-event.
As Isle of Skye Elopement and Proposal Photographers, we often are asked this question. Since eating is very much a matter of taste (sorry!) this can be a difficult one to answer.
We often recommend local hotels. Here are a few examples, though there are many more: Duisdale House, in the south of Skye, Cuillin Hills Hotel (see lower image) in Portree, the Flodigarry Hotel in the north and Skye's two very famous spots, the Three Chimneys (upper image) and Kinloch Lodge Hotel. We would suggest booking in advance, especially for the Three Chimneys and Kinloch Lodge.
If your wedding is on a beach with firm sand or if near the roadside, such as at Sligachan Bridge, you will probably want to wear your choice of wedding shoes.
For anyone having to navigate rocky paths and damp ground, it is good to have tougher footwear. Guys can usually wear any type of strong shoes or boots. Our brides have worn hiking boots, dazzlingly coloured wellingtons and bridal-white wellingtons.
Many couples will bring a change of footwear to their chosen ceremony-spot. Some couples have even safely carried their wedding outfits to the location and changed discreetly on site!
The Euphoria Team uses Canon full-frame, digital cameras and a selection of L lenses, an Olympus mirrorless camera, auxiliary lighting and ice lights designed by Euphoria's mentor, Australian Master Photographer, Jerry Ghionis plus back-up gear.
The Canon cameras are perfect for shooting in dark castle interiors as well as bright Scottish landscapes. The Olympus has quirky, in-camera filters which add a unique flavour for some original, stylised images, usually after the main shoot.
For aerial work, Sean uses DJI drones.
