Sometimes, it is hard to find the time for a complete break.  Recently, however, some of the Euphoria team had a full holiday on their beloved Isle of Jersey.  (Jersey is definitely a top location for all kinds of fashion photography too!)

With extra-hot, sunny weather every single day, the Euphoria girls came back fully refreshed, having loved every minute of their holiday.

This is the exciting and breathtaking Devil's Hole, also the scene of a vintage film.

Islanders love other islands too.  There is a strong connection between the Isle of Skye and the Isle of Jersey for many Scots.  (In our case, an uncle, who was born on Skye, moved to live on Jersey.)

The Euphoria Team has maintained a close connection to the Isle of Jersey.  It is a fabulous island for any kind of photography.  Utilising the gorgeous, long stretches of beach, historic castles and buildings and intimate coves, fashion photography of all types can be exquisitely photographed here.

While photographing a vintage fashion shoot at Sligachan, Isle of Skye, some visitors came by with their large, ginger cat on a lead.  We immediately asked if we could add him into our photography.  The owners were very happy to allow this and the cat was equally happy to be shot.  

This unexpected element added a unique touch to form an immediately arresting, story-telling image with an effect outstanding.

Scottish fashion designs photographed in the home which inspired them surely would be the best choice.  The colours, textures, lighting, landscape and weather all influence Scottish fabrics and fashion designs, from couture to stylish outdoor clothing.  These influences can be echoed in the choice of location(s) for your designs.

The style of photography should always spotlight and showcase the style of fashion design.  Every photography studio has their own particular style of artistic expression.  However, your chosen photographers should be able to absorb and reflect your design-style in their work.

Euphoria's Roz and Norma had the opportunity to be interviewed by the internationally-acclaimed Scottish Couturier, Sandra Murray for a BBC Alba programme in the series Stoidhle - The Dressing Up Box - an exciting honour with a tinge of nerves!

We met Sandra beforehand and she shared her latest exciting designs and gave us a foregleam of the interview the following day.  Our interview related to our interest in vintage fashions.  It featured a number of the gowns, capes and accessories in our collection.

The programme was filmed at Aigas House.  This image shows Roz on location there in her own gown, cape and shoes.

We have already considered the possibility of rain - and, actually, this element can be incorporated into a raw, wild type of photography - but there are also so many other elements in Scotland.

Wind can be utilised to accentuate drapes, folds and contours of the subject's form as well as creating a wild, natural effect in hair.  Still water can be used to design effective, arresting reflections, doubling the impact of the images.  Racing waterfalls and waves cause an exhilarating effect for both subjects and viewers.  Scottish mist creates a moody, ethereal, soft romantic effect.  Snow brings out the inner-child in the subject with a feeling of freedom and fun.

For anyone anticipating a shoot in Scotland, this question is a common concern.  When planning your photo-shoot, if you are able, you can allow for some flexibility of timing.

Where this is not possible, there are so many dramatic and romantic indoor or partially covered locations that, whatever type of photography required, you can still have fantastic images!

You have travelled to the mysterious and atmospheric Isle of Skye for a dramatic photo-shoot.  The weather is fine, all your creative team is present and you have selected the most appropriate location.  (Hopefully, you have chosen Euphoria Photography to devise gorgeous images.)  What else do you need?

In photographic terms, we often think of timing as choosing the exact moment to press the shutter/catch the pose and expression.  The accompanying image is a storey-telling shot.  The location is wild and dramatic, at the Fairy Pools.  So, the posing is appropriate.  However, the timing that is crucial is actually the time of day.  It was chosen for warm, flattering lighting for skin tones and the scenery plus, at a time when there would be few visitors to show the natural, free spirit of Scotland.  The Euphoria Team would love to help with the timing for your fashion shoot too!

Your excited client arrives to collect her gorgeous gown.  She had followed the process eagerly from choosing the design and embellishments, watching the intricate beading and final details being delicately applied.  Now, it is hers to take away and wear for perhaps the biggest event of her life.

You hand it over to her, so proud of your creation, - in plain, brown paper.  There is no beautiful box, sumptuous gauzy packing and ribbons, no anticipatory unveiling.  This would simply never happen.

A favourite sound, with the Euphoria Photography Team, is the endless song of the Lark - a herald of Spring.  This morning, walking in the rolling hills of Dumfries and Galloway, the unmistakable sound of a Lark could be heard.  Why was this so remarkable?  It is only early February.

These fascinating birds can keep on singing, without a break, for long periods at a time and here, in Scotland, they can be heard vigorously singing even right on to June.

Clearly, today's Lark believes Spring is near - despite the chilly weather - and, for Fashion Photographers and all types of photography, Spring ireally s good news!

The romantic-heroine-style subject just happens to face into the light, while allowing a dramatic shadow to sculpt her face.  The wind just happens to be blowing in the right direction to lift her hair and billow her gorgeous gown.  She naturally places her hand in a soft, elegant pose and looks off to the side, just beyond the photographer.  Her partner neatly steps out behind her and enhances the flow of her gown by lifting it.  He cleverly directs attention to her by looking towards her.  We wish!

All the elements, which collude to form this image, were created.  Directing position and posing, in flattering light, creates the most powerful and memorable images.  It just simply does not happen by chance!

This gown was created by a designer in the United States.  So much thought and painstaking care has gone into the intricate beading, which distinguishes this dress.

It is imperative that fashion photographers note these unique details and record them effectively so that the visual impact of the designs is heightened and clients receive wonderful imagery for their business.

It is really hard to think of any other profession viewed in quite such a diminished way as photography.  One very famous photographer was asked by a young boy what his job was.  After hearing that he was a photographer, the boy said, "That's not a real job!"

After all everyone has a camera, so that must mean everyone is a photographer?  I have a spanner.  So, I must be a mechanic!  I have a tennis racquet.  So, I can go to Wimbledon!

Have a second look at the accompanying image.  Do you know what was required to achieve this?  What was involved to create the warm lighting, the abstract shadows on the subject's face and the thoughtful pose?  Which camera settings were used?  To excel in dramatic lighting and posing requires training, application and practice plus imagination.

Bridal fashion designers put their creative heart and soul into their designs.  It is an honour to be involved in photographing such intricate artistry.  It is, though, imperative, when we are evolving unique, stylish images for clients, to showcase the craftsmanship and formation on the rear of the gown.

Fashion Photographers at Euphoria take inspiration from all kinds of beauty - nature, art and, at times, other photographers.  While we are inspired by these, we do not attempt to make direct copies of other artists' ideas - it simply does not work.  The elements and concept, which created the original inspiration, will not be present when you attempt to copy.

The accompanying image was inspired by the photography of Jerry Ghionis.  Jerry's training was the strongest influence in our work.  It was Jerry who brainstormed with us, prompting the discovery of our business name, "Euphoria."  Definitely, we are indebted to other creatives!
