Sources of Inspiration for Skye Wedding Photographers
30 May 2014

Most photographers want to be bright, innovative and inventive. How can photographers keep their work fresh and inspired?

We are constantly given advice to “think out-of-the-box.” For some individuals, taking an alternative view is almost instinctive. Euphoria’s Roz continually finds different ways of getting the unusual angle on shots. I tend to take inspiration from things around me, in nature and man-made. The inspiration for the above shot, where our bride, Gemma almost looks as though she is dancing, was from a sculpture I saw recently at a friend’s house. It was a flapper-style figure who had pulled the fabric up similarly - over her head and leaned backwards - very graceful and elegant. When I saw Gemma with her train, I wanted to try out the sculpture’s pose. I felt a dramatic pose in such an atmospheric location as the Quiraing was appropriate.

I do think it’s important to run with our ideas. Well, we are artists and our work is a form of artistic expression. Ideas and inspiration can be triggered or found in the most unexpected places - if we keep looking for it and are willing to use it.
