Isle Of Skye Wedding Photographer
Sneak Peek - Fairy Glen Elopement
23 November 2016

This Monday began with a crisp hoar frost dusting the landscape and foliage with dainty, glimmering crystals.  We were photographing the wedding of Rich and Katarina.  Rich comes from Canada but, like many Canadians, has Scottish ancestry and his stunning bride, Katarina, is from Serbia!

The couple set off from Portree Hotel to Skeabost Country House Hotel conservatory for a beautiful elopement ceremony conducted by Meg Gillies, Registrar.  Rich and Katarina shared deeply moving personal vows and performed the Celtic hand-fasting ritual before heading off to the eerie, still and strange landscape of the Fairy Glen.  The road to the glen was treacherous but well worth the risk.  Despite the bitter cold, Katarina and Rich were willing to pose within the landscape and, then, move onwards towards Uig before heading back into Portree for some final shots as the sun dropped.

Rich, himself, is a photographer and writer, attached to a University and was interested in our lighting equipment and approach.  Choosing a favourite image from such a unique elopement is always difficult but I especially liked this shot, taken by Roz, outside the Portree Hotel.  Roz tilted the bride's head up to use the overhead lighting and shot on the shadow-side to sculpt her face.  She then directed Rich to come against the bride's face, smiling onto her cheek, and giving her an excuse to look upwards in delight. Lastly, Roz carefully positioned her camera to catch their reflection in the dappled lighting of the restaurant window.
