Roz Skinner Interviews Alexander McCall Smith
15 July 2015

When I was twelve, somebody gave me a copy of Alexander McCall Smith's book, The Banana Machine.  I devoured it, loving the characters, the plot, the brilliance of it all.

When I was fourteen, I read The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.  And then the second book in the series.  And the third.  And the fourth.  My friend said to me: "I think you should read some of Alexander McCall Smith books.  I think you would like them."  I sent her a photograph of my collection (38 titles).
When I was sixteen, I wrote a dissertation for my university course on La's Orchestra Saves The World (I called mine "Alexander McCall Smith Saves The World" and went on to explain how his writing made the world a better place.)
When I was eighteen, I started working as a journalist on EVENTS newspaper in Stornoway.  What has this to do with Alexander McCall Smith, you ask?  Aha.
When I was twenty, I had the honour and delight of interviewing my favourite author for The Heb Magazine.  You can read it here.
I am so grateful to do a job that I love, which involves meeting and talking with lovely people, such as Mr McCall Smith.
