Planning your Perfect Elopement, Proposal, Engagement on the Isle of Skye, Part 1: How to get here & where to stay.
24 June 2021

As with any planning, it becomes so much easier with insider information.  If you are planning to elope to the Isle of Skye or propose and become engaged on this romantic island, we are happy to share some helpful tips and links to more information for you to check out and research - making the planning process enjoyable and fun too!

HOW TO GET HERE:  Our nearest Airport is Inverness, which is around a three-hour drive from the Isle of Skye.  More information on the airport can be found here.  For car hire, from the Airport, here are some options to consider, including reviews.  For those arriving by car, it is worth considering that Scottish, and especially island roads, will require longer driving times than you may imagine.  Also, during peak season on the Isle of Skye, the volume of traffic on some single track roads can slow your journey time considerably.

WHERE TO STAY:  Hotels.  The Isle of Skye has no shortage of warm and welcoming luxury hotels.  Some of our favourites are the Flodigarry in the north of the island, the Cuillin Hills Hotel in Portree, Duisdale House Hotel in the south of the island and the Sligcahan Hotel right in the centre of Skye. (For more information on other lovely hotels throughout the island, please check out the locations on our Let's Elope! page.

LUXURY BED & BREAKFAST ACCOMMODATION:  This is a little bit harder for us to recommend since, living locally, we have never used these services.  However, here are some whose proprietors are personally known to be so kind and hospitable.  Taransay House is in Portree and run by the very helpful Murdo Morrison and his wife, Alison.  In the west of the island is Hazledean in Glendale.  It is lovingly run by Agnes, who is a wonderful hostess and cook and has entertained some very famous guests too!  In the south of the island, right on the loch side, with stunning views is Skye Picture House, where you will be warmly welcomed by Sarah and her husband Stuart.

If you would like any further information, please feel free to contact us as we would be delighted to help!
