Perfect - Euphoria at The Mousetrap
27 June 2014

Yesterday, the Euphoria team had an all too infrequent visit to the Eden Court Theatre, Inverness for its showing of Agatha Christie’s play, The Mousetrap.

The play has been running since 1952! But 2014 was our first chance to see it. Because of the demand for tickets, we had only been able to obtain tickets for a box with a slightly restricted view but owing to the arrangement of the set, this box was now an impossible view. Eden Court staff very kindly arranged for us to have a box specially opened up - right next to the stage. We couldn’t have been any closer or we would have been on it! That was just perfect for Roz and me.

The play was wonderfully and smoothly performed by the cast. I am always amazed how actors can project their voices so strongly without giving the impression that they are shouting. The plot is entirely peppered with Agatha Christie’s famous red herrings and a good smattering of light humour too. In amongst all these, I only managed to spot three clues - one was another red herring and so, knowing the answer, I would love to see the play again and see the clues I missed.

The tradition of The Mousetrap, of course, is that all in the audience must keep their knowledge of the murderer absolutely secret - or as we were reminded, “in your heart.” I would recommend you see it if you get the chance and if you like Agatha Christie, you’ll want to try to work it out yourself. All the best with that!
