Euphoria Photography - Isle of Skye Wedding Photography, in the Highlands and Islands and throughout Scotland

Norma's Favourite Image From A Romantic Loch Coruisk Elopement
08 August 2015

I have to admit to having a favourite type of wedding photography, here on the Isle of Skye (and Scottish Highlands,) and that, of course, is the elopement.

There seems to be an almost wild and reckless romanticism about choosing the rugged Scottish landscape as a wedding destination. Roz and I recently had the honour to photograph a very special couple and their delightful son as they shared their wedding vows at one of Skye's most romantic locations – Loch Coruisk.

As you will know, the Euphoria team is highly influenced by Australian Master Photographer, Jerry Ghionis. Jerry's maxim is to inspire not provide a set of standard poses to copy and we too firmly believe that copying (even one's own winners) never works. Jerry teaches locating the best lighting and then, talking the couple into a desired pose but, because no two couples are ever the same, they create their own individual look. So, in the end, although the result was directed, it is also natural.

This approach worked at the Loch Coruisk wedding for the above shot. I had been waiting for the right situation to create this look. The lighting was soft and diffused. I asked the couple to walk slowly toward the cameras (the bride lifting her gown to walk) and the groom to whisper something sweet into her ears as she peered off to the left and the above photograph is the result with which I was delighted.

As a result of our work on this elopement, the couple have proclaimed themselves our “biggest fans!” It doesn't get better than that!

If you are considering eloping to the Isle of Skye, we would be thrilled to have a share in your unique romance.
