Favourite Image from North Skye Elopement - Norma Skinner, Skye Wedding Photographer, Chooses
12 August 2014

Roz and I had a call from bride-to-be Rena to invite us to photograph her elopement with Michael.  This fun-loving couple had travelled from their home is Utah, U.S.A. to marry on the Isle of Skye and they had glorious weather for it!

Michael and Rena were married at Portree Registry Office with a blend of laughter and emotional tears. Afterwards, the couple opted to visit some of the most iconic scenery on the Isle of Skye.  We went first to the Old Man of Storr and then, on to the Quiraing. However, we were acutely conscious that we had photographed another elopement in these areas just recently.  So, we were on a mission to shoot this couple entirely differently and, of course, since every couple is so different, we found ourselves directing their photography uniquely.

When I heard from Rena that she was wearing a short gown, I guessed that she must have good legs and she did!  We made it a particular goal to shoot those great legs!

Rena and Michael had a casual, relaxed approach to the day and a natural ability to express the fun-sides of their personalities.  It was an absolute pleasure to be with them, to document memories for them both and for family and friends back home.

Choosing a favourite image from this wedding has proven extremely difficult and, I am certain, I can't stick to just one.

So, I will begin with this photograph, from the final-preparation stages, at the Cuillin Hills Hotel, Portree.  We asked Rena to turn towards the beautiful, soft light streaming through the window.  Then, inspired by a Jerry Ghionis' image, from his educational I.C.E. Society training, we asked her to place both her hands very gently on the straps of her gown. The above image, shot by Roz, is the result.  I really love how perfectly Rena's hands are arranged and the subtle yet thoughtful expression on her face as she gazes out of the window.
