FAQ: What is Your Current Camera Kit?
28 November 2014

As professional wedding photographers, we aim to use the best equipment possible, for our work and, naturally, our kit grows and is refined. We have tried a number of different cameras and lenses, through the years, but are very happy with the image quality and ease-of-use from our equipment.

We are currently using:

Canon 5D Mark IIIs

Canon 6Ds

Canon 24-70mm F2.8 L Lenses

Canon 70-200mm F4 L Lenses

Tamron 28-70mm F2.8 lens

Various types of off-camera lighting

For detailed shots, the Canon 6D produces wonderfully clear, beautiful landscape colour rendition and sharp images even at ridiculously high ISOs. This camera is light, easy to use and to alter settings quickly. The 5D III couples well with the 70-200mm lens and is a favourite for warm skin tones. Off-camera lighting is used to produce dramatic effects in wedding portrait work.

Some photographers prefer to switch lenses quickly, on the same camera, giving time to think about their shot and reassess their approach. Others prefer to pick up the camera with the appropriate lens already attached and get on with shooting. Roz and I have opted for the latter way of working.

At the moment, we just can’t see any equipment out there more suited to our needs or producing finer results that what we have. Having the right kit (and plenty of it) allows our clients to have confidence in us and allows us to have confidence in our gear so that we are able to keep on photographing!
