A Walk In The Rain
06 January 2015

I was invited on another impromptu walk today - nicknamed the Sequel to Balmacara.  For me, this walk did not get off to a very good start as I confidently drove to the wrong meeting place only to see several of my friends driving by and peering at me with concerned expressions.  I was mercilessly (and deservedly) teased for the duration of the day.

Our walk took us from the cemetery at Skeabost round the forest tracks, down the Hill Road and on the main road to Skeabost again - a long loop.  The weather was gorgeous... until the last half mile.  The heavens opened and a downpour of stinging hail and pounding rain hit us all.  My friend, George, stopped in the middle of the road, undid his backpack and removed a large green poncho, which he handed to me and instructed me on how to get into it.  I observed that it was more like a tent than a garment and he replied that it was multi-purpose, ex-army issue.  Although I felt inelegant, I was warm and very dry.  Thankfully, no photos survived of me wearing it!!
